CONVERSATIONS WITH COURTNEY

Hi, this is Mason. You might remember me as the “recycled” dog in the Going Green article in the April Newsletter. Today I want to recommend a training book that offers a different approach to how you humans interact and communicate with your canine friends.

Over the past few months my humans have been trying to train a very exuberant and, I have to say, rude young golden.  Some days, mom would get so frustrated she would say, “When will she get it?”  Then she would just walk away shaking her head and muttering under her breath.

Sometimes we take on the “challenging fosters” in our house – it is exhausting work, but someone has to do it.  One day our little “imp” swam in the water bowl (inside the house), chased the cat AND stole brownies off the counter – and that was just in the morning!!  As mom was about to completely lose her cool, I gently nudged her and gave her that look that only an experienced dog can and I said, “remember Courtney”.  Mom took a deep breath, gave me a kiss and said, “oh yes, Courtney, that’s right”.

Courtney is a very wise 13 year old Golden Retriever featured in the book Conversations with Courtney by Brad Jaffe.  It is a light hearted book about teaching us dogs by learning to communicate in a language we understand.  It helps humans learn to set things up so we can figure them out for ourselves.  Learning becomes fun and simple for all of us.

Courtney helped her humans understand reinforcement training and communication from our point of view.  Courtney is a very wise woman.  I (well, we) helped our little foster learn some manners and life skills.  Now she is in her forever home and on her way to becoming a therapy dog!  All thanks to me – and Courtney!

If you’d like to learn more about Courtney, you can visit www.conversationswithcourtney.com.

Brad Jaffe and his wife Tamara own and operate Team Canine, Inc. in Phoenix.  You can visit their website at www.teamcanine.com to learn about training that breaks away the old myths and is based on communication & relationship building with your four-legged friend.

Courtney’s book will be on sale at Swim Fest in the boutique.  I highly recommend it!

Love,

Mason
